New Year = New Intern

Returning home was a welcomed change. I missed a lot of things about Switzerland.
- The public transport
- Their efficiency
- The instant access to nature
- Stores being closed on Sunday (forced relaxation time)
- A sense of aesthetic appeal
On the other hand, I also find myself longing for a new environment once again. Something about the social interaction in this country is difficult to navigate. I am missing the excitement and interaction I used to have on a college campus or big city.
But, at the beginning of this month, I began a new internship at a large international art gallery called Hauser & Wirth. The gallery is in charge of names such as Paul McCarthy, Ron Mueck and Pipilotti Rist to name just a few. It is an opportunity that I feel very privileged to have come across.
Initially I was intimidated by the ‘introductory’ e-mails that came through our inbox in the first week of January. Most of the other interns working for this company have their masters of prior experience of working for a gallery. Then, here I am in the midst of this powerhouse gallery. Sure, I’ve organized some events; maybe I even got some pretty spectacular grades. But, lets me honest my resume does not, and cannot look that that of a 30 years old. (which most of the interns are close to)
However, after week two I feel like I’ve found my legs. Although, the beginning of the week is still utterly chaotic, once Wednesday rolls around things seem to settle though. By Thursday evening/Friday morning the week is already over and I get a much-needed break!
This week we are opening two new shows in the galleries and I am very much looking forward to our preparation for this event.
